“This one step changed EVERYTHING”

900 days ago, I was fat, moody, undisciplined — and unhappy

I was carrying extra weight, but it wasn’t just the physical heaviness. I was irritable, withdrawn, unmotivated, and overall disappointed in who I had become. I hid behind oversized, untucked shirts — the unofficial “fat guy flag” — because I didn’t want to face how far I’d let myself go.

My drinking wasn’t dramatic or chaotic, but it was consistent. Every single weekend, without fail. Not the kind that made me miss work — the kind that quietly chips away at your life. And when I had to stop drinking and head home, I turned into a sulky child my wife didn’t deserve.

Something had to change.

The realisation hit hard: it wasn’t the food — it was the booze

I’d tried everything to lose weight. Running, cycling, swimming — none of it worked.

Then it finally clicked:the 4,000 calories I drank every weekend were the real problem.

So one Sunday, I made a decision:I’m quitting drinking. No plan. Just determination.

Two days later, I found One Year No Beer — and everything shifted.

OYNB changed my life from day one

The bold challenge headlines grabbed me immediately:28 days. 90 days. 365 days alcohol-free.And for the first time, I thought, I can do 90 days.

I joined the community and instantly felt supported. People checked in on each other, celebrated wins, comforted setbacks — it felt like I had finally found my tribe.

And I was hooked.

Quitting alcohol became my keystone habit

Removing booze wasn’t just a single change — it triggered a chain reaction:

• I started waking up early• I began running• I joined a gym• I developed discipline I never had• I learned how to build healthy habits instead of numbing myself

I’ve now lost 50 pounds, wake up consistently at 4am, meditate, stretch, and train — all before most people are out of bed.

And it all started with one decision.

My relationships, confidence, and entire life transformed

Quitting drinking changed how I see myself and how I show up for my wife and kids. I became calmer, happier, more present. I became someone I’m proud of.

If something feels “missing” in your life — it’s probably not missing at all. It’s just being drowned out by alcohol.

I never realised how much it held me back until I finally stopped.
