My relationship with alcohol started at the age of 15
Like many teenagers, I drank to fit in. I couldn’t “hold” my drink, so I would get drunk quickly and suffer the consequences. In my 20s, life felt overwhelming and alcohol became a numbing mechanism. In my 30s, I had a busy social life filled with dinners, events and restaurant nights — always accompanied by wine. In my early 40s, alcohol turned into my de-stressor. Divorce, two young daughters, emotional overload — and I believed my favourite drink was soothing my anxiety. In truth, it was fuelling it.

I would often ask myself throughout the years, how would life be without alcohol?
By the time I found OYNB, I had just turned 49 and recently moved to the UAE.The social life there is vibrant, and I felt myself slipping back into old patterns of bar-centred socialising — something I hadn’t done regularly since before having children. I could see exactly where it could lead if I didn’t act immediately.
With my 50th birthday approaching, I made a commitment to become the healthiest, fittest, happiest version of myself. I wanted to be fabulous at 50 — and alcohol-free.
Signing up for the 28-Day Challenge, I hoped to find a community that understood, supported and shared this journey. A place where no one questioned why I wasn’t drinking. That’s exactly what I found.
The support was great
The first 28 days came surprisingly easy — I was mentally ready. My sleep improved dramatically. The next 30 days were more challenging: there were moments when I wanted to reach for a drink to “relax”, but I chose differently. I found new, healthier ways to unwind.
Now at 90 days alcohol-free, I feel extraordinary.
My daily anxiety has disappeared.I sleep deeply.I have more energy, focus and calm.I’m more productive in my business than I’ve been in years.

I am fitter too — in fact, fitter than I have ever been!
I set a challenge to run 10K within 90 days — and I achieved it in 60.I added cycling to my routine.I’m now training for a half marathon this summer.
My eyes are brighter. My skin is glowing. My mind is clear — no fog, no heaviness, no haze.
The OYNB daily emails, videos and the supportive Facebook community gave me structure, encouragement and understanding. Learning the psychology behind drinking helped me finally understand myself.
If I can break a 34-year drinking habit, anyone can.And it feels absolutely incredible.
