I went back to the oil broking floor for a specific reason. I wanted to prove a hypothesis.
In a high-pressure environment, clarity is the ultimate unfair advantage.
I look around the city and I see talented people.
They are smart. They are ambitious.
But they are running at 60% capacity.
They are using alcohol to "take the edge off" a stressful day, unaware that they are borrowing from tomorrow’s performance to pay for today’s relief.
Most people think the solution is to just stop drinking. They think if they white-knuckle their way through "Dry January," everything will be fixed.
That is a lie.
Stopping drinking doesn't fix the problem because alcohol isn't the problem.
Alcohol is the symptom.
