“Life is so much fuller, sweeter, and better without alcohol.”
I was a party girl from my teenage years onward, so quitting drinking wasn’t easy — in fact, those first days were really hard. I didn’t know who I’d be without wine at dinner, what my social life would look like, or how I’d fill all the time I used to spend going out. But I knew it was time to stop.
The first ten days were rough
After about a week of going alcohol-free on my own, I realised I needed support. That’s when I joined One Year No Beer. Connecting with people who were going through the same thing made all the difference. Reading their stories in the Facebook group was the motivation I needed to keep going when the early days felt heavy.
Two weeks in, everything started to change
It’s incredible how one habit shift can create a domino effect in the rest of your life. After I quit drinking:
I learned to cook
I became vegetarian
I joined a choir
I rediscovered reading
I finally tried gym classes I’d always been intimidated by — pump, which I now love
I’ve practiced and taught yoga for years, but going alcohol-free deepened everything: my practice, my teaching, and my passion. I put more focused effort into growing my wellness presence on Instagram. I even tried cutting caffeine (I didn’t quit it entirely, but I dramatically reduced it — a win!).

I am SO much happier
Quitting drinking brought clarity I didn’t even realise I was missing. It made one thing absolutely undeniable:wellness is my purpose.
With that clarity came momentum:
I earned my Reiki certification
I’m starting my Barre instructor certification
Next week I begin another advanced yoga teacher training
I’m learning to teach spinning
I want to become a life coach
My dream is to work in wellness full-time — and going alcohol-free has given me the space, energy, and confidence to chase that dream.
I did this for myself — but not by myself
My family and friends were amazing. And the OYNB Facebook group? Absolutely essential. The support, the shared stories, the sense of “you’re not alone” — it changed everything for me.
The goal kept expanding
First it was 28 days.Then 90 days. Now it’s 365 days.
People ask me all the time when I’ll have my “first drink” again. Honestly? I’d love a beer now and then — but I hope I never will.
For more than a decade, alcohol drained my time, money, energy, and joy.I’m completely over it.
Life is richer, more balanced, more meaningful — simply better — without alcohol.
